Make spooky Halloween-themed Stamped Cookies this season, in three amazing designs! No decoration needed, and this easy sugar cookie recipe can be used for many occasions.
Ingredients
- 1 cup (2 sticks) butter
- 1/ 2 cup sugar
- 1/ 2 cup brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 1/ 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 2 2/ 3 cups flour
- 1/ 2 teaspoon salt
- (optional) food coloring
Directions
Sift together flour and salt. Set aside. Using an electric mixer, cream together butter and sugar. Beat until fluffy. Add egg and vanilla. Scrape sides of bowl and blend. Slowly add dry ingredients and combine thoroughly. Divide dough into thirds. With food coloring gel, make one third orange, make another third black and leave one uncolored. Cover dough in plastic and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or up to a day. Preheat oven to 350°F. Let dough soften slightly at room temperature to ease rolling into balls. Roll into golf ball size balls and roll balls in flour. Place floured balls on cookie sheet and press with Halloween stamps. Bake 8-10 minutes and cool on rack before serving.

These cookies were easy to make and the shapes came out well. However, they’re extremely bland. I made half with 2 tablespoons with Dutch processed cocoa to make the black color more vibrant. Those tasted good. The vanilla ones need vanilla bean, cinnamon, orange zest or something else because otherwise they’re really boring cookies.
