Ingredients
- 1 (6 ounce) box of Jello
- 1 package unflavored gelatin
- 6 ounces vanilla yogurt (optional)
Directions
Prepare Jello according to instructions in a large bowl. Add unflavored gelatin. If using vanilla yogurt for a layered effect, divide Jello mixture into two bowls. Add yogurt to one bowl and mix.
For layering Jello: In skull cakelet pan, add desired first layer of Jell-O mixture to each well, filling only halfway. Refrigerate until Jello begins to harden and form. Make sure there is no liquid before adding your second layer. Once ready, add the next layer. Once all layers are poured, refrigerate overnight for best results. When ready to serve, place pan in a warm water bath, so Jello slightly releases from the sides of the pan. We used a high sided sheet pan and filled it with warm water (don’t add hot water as you don’t want Jello to completely melt). When Jello has slightly released from sides, invert onto a surface for serving. Makes 6 Jello Skulls.
*Follow layering steps for multiple Jello colors as another option

I think these would have been fine if I had sprayed the pan with Pam first – but the recipe didn’t call for it so I didn’t, and they would not come out. I tried the lukewarm water bath to get them to release, and it just melted the features. Popped it back in the fridge to chill again, and afterward I managed to get 2 out of 6 out of the pan mostly intact with a small spatula. I also skipped the yogurt but followed the rest of the recipe. They did jiggle a lot, my nephew loved it.

These turned out amazing! I didn’t do the layered look using yogurt just the jello with extra gelatin (I’m assuming for stability) kids are so excited!
