Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 1/ 4 cup sugar
- 1 1/ 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/ 4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/ 4 teaspoon salt
- 1/ 2 cup cold butter, cut into pieces
- 3/ 4 cup mini chocolate chips
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 3/ 4 cup buttermilk
Directions
Heat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Brush pan with vegetable shortening. In a large bowl, sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Blend butter into the flour mixture with a pastry blender or two knives. The mixture should look like coarse meal. Stir in chocolate chips. In a small bowl, combine buttermilk and vanilla extract and then add to the flour mixture. Stir just until the dough comes together. Do not over mix the dough. Divide dough evenly among wells in pan. Bake for13-18 minutes, until golden brown and toothpick comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes in pan. Remove from pan and serve.

I bought this pan at a garage sale for $1.00. Searched for a recipe on the Nordic Ware website and found this one. Mixed up the ingredients and baked them. They were delicious. Will make them again.

I received the pan for my birthday and wanted to use it the first time with the recipe that came with the pan. I too used cinnamon chips instead of chocolate. While they were good, I found the amount of butter to be insane. In the future, I will probably cut down the amount of fats in it. It’s just WAY too much. My husband, however, raved about how good these scones were. So, I guess, taste is in the mouth of the eater. 🙂

Literally the best scone recipe & the best pan I’ve ever used!! Highly recommend playing around with mix-ins. A winner is white chocolate chips with lots of orange zest in the batter. The pan is incredible – it caramelizes the white chocolate chips & bakes everything so evenly and beautifully.

I just got my mini scone pan today and wanted a recipe that worked with the pan. Cinnamon chips were in the pantry, so I added a bit of pumpkin pie spice and used the cinnamon chips and it worked like a charm. Delicious❤️
