These irresistibly light and fluffy baked vanilla donuts with a tangy citrus glaze are as delicious as they are beautiful and all baked at home! No deep frying necessary and the unique shape of these donuts reminiscent of French Cruller doughnuts are so much easier to make. The donut base is a simple moist vanilla donut recipe dipped in a flavorful orange glaze that highlights the fun twist design. Enjoy with a cup of coffee at a spring and summer brunch or the perfect treat for a bridal or baby shower.
Ingredients
Baked Donuts:
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/8 tsp salt
- 1 egg
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup butter, melted and slightly cooled
- 2 tsp vanilla extract (or vanilla bean paste)
- 1/2 cup milk
Citrus Glaze:
- 1 3/4 cups sifted Confectioners’ sugar (more or less as desired)
- 3 Tbsp milk
- 1 tsp orange extract
Directions
Preheat oven to 350°F. Prepare French Twist Donut Pan with baking spray and use a pastry brush to evenly coat the donut wells. In a small bowl, combine flour, baking powder and salt. Using a mixer with a paddle attachment, mix the egg and sugar together. Add in melted butter and vanilla thoroughly. Add half of the flour and stir. Then add the milk followed by the other half of the flour mixture until smooth. For ease, place batter in pastry bag & pipe batter evenly into prepared pan or spoon in using a tablespoon. Bake 15-17 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean when inserted into center of cakes. Let donuts cool in pan for 5 minutes before inverting onto a cooling rack.
While donuts cool, prepare glaze. In a wide mouthed bowl, combine citrus glaze ingredients until smooth and you reach the desired consistency (adjust as needed!) Line a half sheet pan with parchment paper and place a rack on top. Dip the top of cooled donuts into the glaze and place, glazed side up, on the rack.

Yummy – I only used 1/3 cup sugar in the batter and the donuts were plenty sweet!
