Introduced over 70 years ago! Why our Cast Aluminum Pancake Pans are Still a Breakfast Favorite
Did you know? Cast pancake pans were one of the original items that Nordic Ware introduced, over 70 years ago. The original “Platte Panne” pan was a Swedish style pancake pan for thin, melt in your mouth pancakes. This simple seven cavity design was made of cast aluminum and is still in our collection today!
Our founder, Dotty Dalquist, developed traditional recipes in the 50’s in her home kitchen. She developed traditional recipes with our original “Platte Panne” pan that still works so nicely with our pancake pans. These recipes include Platter, Old Fashioned Platter and Blueberry Pancakes- see image below from our “Old World Recipe Book:”
Since those early years, we have added more unique designs to this collection to make detailed pancakes for any occasion! Some of our current designs include holiday-themed pans, smiley faces, animals and more. The pans are still made in the USA and are made of heavy cast aluminum to make perfectly browned pancakes. Their premium nonstick surface makes cleanup easy too!
Our newest addition to our Pancake Pan Collection is our Patterns Pancake Pan, just announced in 2023! This pan creates seven unique, perfectly round pancakes at once in fun geometric patterns. Just pour your favorite batter into the circles, flip, serve, and enjoy. Designs capture butter, syrup, jam, honey, fruit, whipped cream and imaginations!
Our pancake pans are so easy to use and are a great idea to make with kids for a fun breakfast in the morning! Watch our full how-to video here or follow these easy steps below:
- Preheat pancake pan on medium heat on the stovetop. Safe to use on ceramic, gas or electric stovetops.
- Grease cavities with butter or baking spray. Use a pastry brush to spread to all of the designs.
- Fill cavities with your favorite pancake batter. TIP: Leave one design open every time you fill. This will make flipping easier.
- Cook until bubbles stop forming and indicate it’s time to flip. Edges will begin to brown slightly as well.
- Flip pancakes into the open wells. Once done cooking on the other side, remove pancakes from pan.
- Repeat steps above with remaining batter. You may only need to grease the pan one other time.
- Add syrup and other toppings and enjoy! Fun, decorative pancakes in no time!
Use any store-bought pancake mix and your favorite homemade recipe. Check our website here for pancake recipe ideas to add to your breakfast routine. Or make one of Dotty’s classic recipes below. They are still a favorite for us today!
